“Getting wrapped up in their lives makes me feel more in real life.”

Nicole

Welcome to our series “The Readers’ Diary”, we’re asking readers why they read and what does reading mean to them.

As readers increasingly share what they’re currently reading and plan to read on social media, we wanted to share more about the people behind each post.

I read to forget. I read to forget about the troubles in my day, the stresses, and the minutiae that sometimes can weigh so heavy on the brain for no reason. I read to learn about different backgrounds, different lifestyles, different cultures. I read to build empathy, to understand life directly outside of my own front door and beyond. Reading, for me, is an escape. When I open a good book, I can get lost in another world. I can forget about my own life and get wrapped up in someone else’s. Reading about the lives of thousands of characters through the years allows me to see things through a plethora of views. Getting wrapped up in their lives makes me feel more in real life. It makes me a bleeding heart, which may or may not be a good thing!
