The 2026 Fall Reading Guide: Best New Books Coming Soon

Hi Bookish Besties, I’ve officially reached the point in the year when my reading life starts craving crisp fall days, atmospheric books, and stories I can disappear into with something warm to drink nearby. Which means one of my favorite projects of the year is almost here: The 2026 Fall Reading Guide launches September 4, 2026. I’ve officially paused reading and narrowed down my favorites but I do occasionally go back and forth deciding exactly how many books will make the final cut. But I can already tell you there are some very good books coming this fall. This year you’ll have two ways to explore the fall reading guide: my beautifully designed Curated Edition you can download as a PDF and the Expanded Fall Reading Guide here on the blog, where I’ll share even more books across nine or ten genre-themed reading lists. What to Expect From The 2026 Fall Reading Guide

I read a lot of books before these guides ever reach you, and I mean a lot. I’m not interested in filling a list simply because a book is buzzy or has a big marketing campaign behind it. I want to know whether I would actually hand that book to another reader and say, “you need to read this.” That means plenty of reading, plenty of books that don’t make the cut, and some very difficult decisions when I realize I cannot reasonably put every book I loved into the Curated Edition. The final number is still taking shape, but you can expect recommendations across many of the genres we return to every season, including literary fiction, historical fiction, family and friendship stories, nonfiction, mysteries and thrillers, science fiction and fantasy, cozy mysteries, romance, and more. And because I know some of you want all the recommendations while others would prefer that I just tell you which books to prioritize, I’m creating the guide both ways.

Two Ways to Find Your Fall Books

The Curated Edition of The 2026 Fall Reading Guide will be the beautiful magazine-style PDF version of the guide, featuring the books I’ve narrowed down to my standout recommendations for the season along with the bookish and seasonal extras that make these guides so much fun to create. Then there’s the Expanded Guide here on the BiblioLifestyle blog. This is where I get to loosen the reins a little. Each genre will have its own dedicated book list with additional recommendations, giving you a much bigger selection to browse when you’re looking for something specific. Want a twisty thriller for a rainy weekend? Go straight to the thrillers. Need a sweeping historical novel you can live inside for a few days? I’ve got you. Suddenly craving something cozy because the temperature dropped three degrees? I understand completely. The goal isn’t to give you the longest list of fall books on the internet. It’s to make finding your next book easier.

Meet This Year’s Cover: The Covered Bridge Bookshop

Now for one of my favorite parts! Every Fall Reading Guide has its own little world, over the years, we’ve gone on a hayride to a pumpkin patch and book barn, escaped to a lakeside park and a cozy lodge, wandered through an apple orchard, and more. For 2026, I wanted to return to something that has been part of the Fall Reading Guide from the very beginning though never before illustrated: the covered bridge. But obviously, this time, I had to make it bookish. This year’s cover concept is The Covered Bridge Bookshop; a classic New England covered bridge spanning a quiet river, except we’ve transformed it into the coziest little bookstore imaginable. Picture weathered wood surrounded by brilliant burnt-orange, maple-red, mustard-yellow, and evergreen foliage. There’s a warm golden glow spilling from inside the bridge, where you can spot bookshelves near the entrance and someone browsing for their next read. Outside, another reader has already settled in with a book while someone else walks along the path carrying theirs. There are pumpkins, mums, lanterns, and fallen leaves, and just the perfect place where I want to spend fall. The bridge is still the star, though. I didn’t want the illustration overloaded with autumn stuff. I wanted it to feel quiet and inviting, like you’ve stumbled across this magical little bookshop while driving through New England and immediately canceled whatever plans you had for the rest of the afternoon.

Why I Keep Making These Reading Guides

At this point, I know you can find book recommendations everywhere. That’s exactly why I don’t want these guides to feel like another giant roundup of upcoming releases. In this day and age, more than ever, I want book recommendations to feel personal. So I spend a lot of time figuring out which ones genuinely surprised me, which characters I became emotionally invested in, which books I couldn’t stop talking about, and which ones I think are worth making room for in an already overflowing TBR. Then I get to organize all of that into something useful for you. Because sometimes you don’t need 300 books to choose from. You need someone whose reading taste you trust to say, “start with these,” and that’s what I want every BiblioLifestyle Reading Guide to do.

Final Thoughts

Fall reading has its own particular kind of magic for me. It’s atmospheric and cozy, yes, but it’s also the season when I want books I can really sink into and make an ordinary afternoon disappear. That’s the feeling I’m chasing with this year’s guide.
