Welcome to The Covered Bridge Bookshop

Every Fall Reading Guide gets its own little world, and this year we’re going somewhere I’ve wanted to revisit for a long time. The covered bridge was part of the very beginning of my Fall Reading Guides, so bringing it back for 2026 felt right. Except this time, naturally, I turned it into a bookshop. The Covered Bridge Bookshop is a dreamy little destination tucked among brilliant fall foliage and stretched across a quiet river. There’s warm golden light spilling from the entrance, bookshelves waiting inside, pumpkins and mums along the path, and readers who clearly have nowhere more important to be. In other words, exactly where I want to disappear for an October afternoon. I wanted the cover to capture what fall reading feels like to me: cozy without being overly precious, a little nostalgic, quiet enough to slow down, and filled with the possibility of finding a book you weren’t expecting to love. Now we just need someone to make this bookshop exist in real life.

These are books I’ve personally read and loved, and I’ve broken everything down so you don’t have to scroll through one enormous list looking for something that fits your mood. The Curated Edition is where I make the hard decisions. After all that reading, I’ve narrowed everything down to my Top 30 Fall Books of 2026 and put them into the beautifully designed PDF magazine edition of the guide. Why These Aren’t Just Lists of Upcoming Fall Books

There are plenty of places where you can find hundreds of upcoming book releases. That’s not what I’m trying to do here. I personally read every book I’m recommending, and that distinction matters to me. I spend months reading advance copies and new releases, making notes, finding surprises, changing my mind, getting emotionally attached to fictional people, and slowly figuring out which books I genuinely want to put in front of you. Some books don’t make it. Others surprise me and suddenly become the book I won’t stop talking about. By the time these guides go live, you’re not looking at a roundup of books that happen to be published this fall. You’re looking at the books I read, loved, and decided were worth recommending to you. That’s also why I created both versions this year. The Expanded Guide lets me share more of those books with you, while the Curated Edition answers the much harder question: But which ones would you read first? Those are my Top 30.

Your Fall Reading Starts Here

Maybe you’re here because you want one literary novel to disappear into over a long weekend. Maybe you need a thriller that will keep you up far later than planned. Maybe the first cool-ish morning arrived and your brain immediately demanded a cozy mystery. Or maybe you’re like me and want all of them. Either way, use this page as your home base throughout the season. Start with whatever category matches your mood, come back when you need something different, and don’t feel like your fall TBR needs to become another assignment. The whole point is finding books you’re excited to pick up.

Final Thoughts

Creating the Fall Reading Guide is always one of my favorite parts of the year, but I especially love what this year’s guide became. From 125+ books I’ve personally read and loved to the 30 I ultimately chose for the Curated Edition, every recommendation represents hours spent reading and thinking about what I actually want to put into your hands. And then there’s our Covered Bridge Bookshop, which I’m still slightly annoyed isn’t a real place where I can spend the weekend. I hope you find at least one book in this guide that becomes part of your fall; the kind you remember alongside the weather changing, the first really good cozy day, or wherever you happened to be when a story completely pulled you in.
