New Book Adaptations to Add to Your Watchlist in April 2026
Hi Besties, If you’re anything like me, you watch book adaptations while silently (or not silently) judging every single change. And April 2026 is actually bringing a really interesting mix-big dystopian continuation, messy modern motherhood, and a sweeping multigenerational literary classic. I haven’t watched any of these yet, so this is very much a what’s worth adding to your watchlist situation-but based on the source material and early buzz, these are the ones I’ll absolutely be queuing up. Let’s get into it!
3 April 2026 Book Adaptations to Watch

The Testaments (April 8th)
Okay, this is probably the biggest one of the month. Based on The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, this series takes us back into Gilead-but from a new perspective, years later, with a younger generation growing up inside the system instead of being forced into it. I’m thinking this will be one of those adaptations where even if you’ve read the book, the tone, performances, and world-building will completely change the experience.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles
Based on the novel of the same name, this one feels like it’s going to hit that very specific sweet spot of chaotic life decisions + humor + low-key existential dread. The premise follows Margo, a young mom trying to survive financially and emotionally, who ends up turning to an unexpected online side hustle. And if you’ve read the book (or even just know the vibe), you already know this is not going to be a neat, tidy, inspirational arc. It’s going to be messy, complicated, and probably uncomfortably relatable. The cast alone is kind of wild-Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, and Nick Offerman-which makes me think this could lean a little more character-driven and sharp than your typical “struggling millennial” story. What I’m most curious about is tone. The book balances humor and emotional depth in a really specific way, and adaptations like this either absolutely nail that balance or completely flatten it. But if they get it right, this could be one of those shows that feels painfully accurate about adulthood in a way you can’t stop watching.

The House of the Spirits
This one feels like the most prestige drama energy of the group. Based on The House of the Spirits, this adaptation is telling a multigenerational story set against political and social upheaval in Chile. It’s one of those novels that blends family saga, history, magic, trauma, and love all into one very layered narrative. What makes this version especially interesting is that it’s the first Spanish-language TV adaptation of the book, which feels important. Stories like this live and breathe through culture, language, and atmosphere, and I’m really hoping this version leans fully into that instead of trying to dilute it. This is the one on the list that I’d probably save for when I want to fully sink into a story and just live in it for a few days.
Final Thoughts
April 2026 is giving us a surprisingly well-rounded mix of book adaptations-from dystopian drama to messy modern life to sweeping literary sagas-and I already know I’ll be watching all three for completely different moods. Tell me which one you’re starting with first, and more importantly, are you a “watch immediately” person or do you wait to see reviews before committing?
