Final Thoughts
If you love tracking the connective tissue of King’s universe-or you’re building a library-this bibliography should help you map the whole terrain. I’ll keep expanding the Short Stories section into a complete index (story → first publication → where it’s collected now) so you can find everything, down to the deep cuts.
If you came here for the novels & novellas reading order with series paths and starter recs, hop over to my streamlined guide: Stephen King Books in Order (1974-2025). And if you spot an edition or appearance I’ve missed, tell me in the comments-I’m always updating!

I have the pop up book “The Girl who loved Tom Gorden” I don’t see that on your list. Just the “first” one.
Hi Donna, that’s a great catch — and that pop-up edition is such a cool collectible! I didn’t include special editions in this particular list since it focuses on first publications, but I love that you mentioned it. How do you like the pop-up version?
I only noticed because I’m attempting to read them all in the “proper” order for references to his other works: I noticed “Storm of the Century” is not listed? Unless I just plain missed it in this huge list. Understandably it was written as an original screenplay and released just as the mini series was aired. So just wondering your thoughts on this as a title of his. Thank you for the wonderful list! Keep it up! Also, is there a recommended order to read them (as to spot any and all references)?
I have a small, coffee table book? It’s a 1980 short story that inside the cover says “first published in Gallery magazine, November 1980”. It’s called The Monkey. Did he add this short story to any of his collections?
I see. It’s part of Skeleton Crew. Nice little book to add to my collection.
