Winter Reading Challenge 2026: 3 Cozy Prompts to Try

Take part in the Winter Reading Challenge 2026 with three cozy reading prompts designed to help you relax, recharge, and savor the season.

A flatlay of three books you can read for the 2026 winter reading challenge on my reading chair with my pillow.

The 2026 Winter Reading Challenge: Cozy Prompts to Brighten Your Season

Winter is my season to slow down. As soon as the days get shorter, I naturally shift into softer routines-warmer drinks, heavier blankets, and books that match this cozy, inward rhythm. And because winter can feel long, I love giving myself something gentle to look forward to. That’s where the Winter Reading Challenge 2026 comes in.

If you’re craving a slow, meaningful, pressure-free reading reset this season, this year’s reading challenge is simple: three cozy prompts-one for each winter month. Whether you read one book or all three, the goal is to help you savor the season through stories that fit your mood.

Before we go deeper, here’s the quick version:

Quick Answer: What Is the Winter Reading Challenge 2026?

The Winter Reading Challenge 2026 runs December 1, 2025 through February 28, 2026 and includes three cozy prompts:

  • A book set in winter
  • A comfort read (or re-read)
  • A book that feels like an escape

There’s no pressure, no minimum number of books, and you can interpret each prompt any way you want.

Okay-now let’s get cozy.

What Makes This Reading Challenge Different?

There are lots of challenges out there, but mine are intentionally simple. I design them for readers who love the idea of a seasonal ritual but don’t want another to-do list. Three prompts let you read with intention without ever feeling behind.

And because I host these challenges every season, they’ve become one of my favorite traditions-a little anchor that helps me reset, refocus, and reconnect with my reading life.

The 2026 Winter Reading Challenge Prompts

Below are this year’s three prompts, plus book suggestions that match the winter mood. Choose one book, choose three, or interpret the prompt your own way-there’s no wrong answer.

A Book Set in Winter

There’s something magical about reading a book that mirrors what’s happening outside your window. Snowstorms, quiet nights, icy landscapes, and characters navigating their own internal and external cold-it just hits differently in December.

Here are three winter-set books I love:

A Comfort Read (or Re-Read)

January is the month I always come back to comfort reading-stories that feel familiar, safe, warm, and steady. There’s something healing about rereading a favorite or picking up something gently paced.

Here are a few comfort-read ideas:

  • Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
  • The Cozy Life by Pia Edberg
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

A Book That Feels Like an Escape

By February, I’m always craving a story that transports me somewhere else-preferably somewhere magical, warm, or just completely unlike my real life. These are the books that feel like mini vacations.

  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  • Beach Read by Emily Henry
  • Circe by Madeline Miller

How the Challenge Works

Joining in is easy and low-pressure:

  • Pick 1-3 books, one for each prompt.
  • Read anytime between December 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
  • Share your picks or progress using #BiblioLifestyleChallenge so we can read together.
  • No rules. No deadlines. Just cozy reading vibes.

Why Participate in the Winter Reading Challenge?

Winter is beautiful, but it can be heavy. A gentle reading ritual gives you:

  • A cozy structure you actually look forward to
  • Permission to slow down
  • A way to reconnect with your reading life
  • Community with fellow cozy readers
  • Small, meaningful moments of joy

Every year, this challenge becomes a grounding ritual for me-a reminder to make space for warmth, rest, and good stories.

  1. I was a bit consumed in my Christmas reads but am ready to dive into this challenge with thisxmonths prompt: a book set in winter! I’m torn between Wintering or The Snow Child😄

  2. With all my holiday and Christmas books I got snowed under a bit but I read a book from my shelf for the Winter theme, a historical fiction called The Winter Guest.

My reread for January will be Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s Gift from the Sea- a book that I adore, and have read at several stages of my life. Ready for a reread of this lovely small book.

I’m not sure about my February book yet. We’ll see.
