Your 2025 Reading Challenge for Adults

Hi Bookish Besties! I’m so excited to share my 2025 Adult Reading Challenge with you. Every year I’ve been hosting reading challenges, and they’ve become one of my favorite ways to push myself out of a slump, explore new genres, and connect with other readers. For 2025, I’ve put together something simple yet inspiring: twelve monthly prompts that will take you on a year-long reading adventure.

If you’ve been craving more structure—or maybe just a gentle nudge to keep reading consistently—this challenge is for you.

What is the 2025 Adult Reading Challenge?

The 2025 reading challenge is a year-long program designed to help you read more intentionally without feeling overwhelmed. Each month comes with a unique prompt to guide your book choice, while still leaving plenty of freedom to pick titles that fit your mood.

It’s perfect if you:

  • Want to shake up your TBR with new genres and authors
  • Love the motivation of tracking progress (apps like StoryGraph, Goodreads, or even a bullet journal work perfectly!)
  • Enjoy reading challenges for adults with prizes, buddy reads, or community check-ins
  • Simply want to fall back in love with reading in 2025

How the Reading Challenge Works

  1. Pick a book that fits the monthly prompt.
  2. Read it at your own pace.
  3. Share your progress online with the hashtag #BiblioLifestyleChallenge so we can all cheer each other on!

You can treat this as a year-long reading challenge, or just dip in and out when the prompts inspire you.

The 2025 Reading Challenge Prompts

  • January: Read a book with “new” in the title
  • February: Pick a story featuring an unusual friendship
  • March: Choose a book with a floral cover or nature theme
  • April: Escape into a book set in a place you’d like to visit
  • May: Read a prize-winning book
  • June: Discover a debut author
  • July: Pick a book with a journey or road trip
  • August: Read a translated book
  • September: Choose a book recommended by a librarian
  • October: Get spooky with a mystery or atmospheric thriller
  • November: Read a memoir or biography
  • December: End with a classic or a book published over 50 years ago

These prompts are broad enough to fit any taste, but still intentional enough to give you that satisfying “challenge” feeling.

Why Join a Reading Challenge for Adults?

When I first started creating adult reading challenges, I thought of them as a playful way to gamify my reading life—but over time, I realized they became something deeper. They helped me:

  • Stay consistent and carve out time for reading
  • Find new favorite authors I might have overlooked
  • Make my TBR more varied and exciting
  • Connect with other readers doing the same prompts

Whether you’re chasing a personal reading goal, exploring new genres, or just love the thrill of ticking off a list, this 2025 reading challenge for adults can add so much joy to your year.

Tracking and Apps

If you like keeping things digital, there are plenty of reading challenges apps where you can plug in the prompts: StoryGraph, Goodreads, and even some library apps let you log your reads. Or, if you’re a paper lover like me, you can keep track in a reading journal or planner.

Reading Challenges with Prizes

If a little incentive keeps you motivated, I recommend rewarding yourself along the way. Some public libraries run adult summer reading programs with prizes, and if yours does, you can double-dip by using these prompts. Or, you can set your own prizes—like a new book, a cozy candle, or even a weekend trip once you’ve hit your personal goals.

Final Thoughts

This 2025 adult reading challenge is about discovery, fun, and community—not perfection. You don’t have to finish every prompt. You don’t even need to do them in order. Just pick the ones that spark joy, and let yourself be surprised by where the books take you.

So, are you ready to join me? Grab the prompts, pick your January book, and let’s make this our most joyful reading year yet.
